MobileYouth asserts that as CD sales continue to decline, cool ringtones are becoming the top marketing tool for record companies. The reports forecasts the eventual demise of the trusty CD with artists instead releasing a ringtone or full-track download instead.

Mobile phone music downloads will account for 16% of the overall UK market for music sales this year. By 2007, the study anticipates mobiles reaching 25% of the market size. This means that the typical UK teenager will spend 26 pounds on music for the mobile phone per year.
