Women Dominate Ringtone Sales

We've long known that women dominate when it comes to ringtone sales. But, never would we have thought that women purchase 69% of all US ringtones! That's the statistic, according to a recent report by Telephia.
According to the report, nine percent of the wireless population purchased a ringtone last quarter.
The majority of buyers for the most popular ringtones skewed to the youngest demographic. No surprise there. Ringtone providers have long known to cater to the young adult and teen populations. Telephia took a close look at five of the top selling ringtones in its study.
"Let Me Hold You", a Bow Wow ringtone, saw 61% of its purchases come from the 18-24 age group. A full 94% of the Bow Wow ringtone was purchased by adults 18-34. "Hollaback Girl," a Gwen Stefani ringtone, had most of its sales in the 25-34 age group with 91% age 34 and under. "Don't Cha," a Pussycat Dolls ringtone, scored the greatest amount in the 25-34 age group with 59% of its sales. Mariah Carey ringtone "We Belong Together" was the oldest skewing of the bunch with 26% of its buyers 35 and over. Suprisingly, 50 Cent ringtones seem to have a following among the oldest age group. While 55% of buyers of "Just A Lil' Bit" were 18-24, a surprising 8% of 50 Cent's ringtone purchasers were hip 55+ hip-hop fans.
